Rob Page and Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst set for Aaron Ramsey meeting

Wales national team manager Rob Page has included Rangers ace Aaron Ramsey in his 23-man squad for the upcoming March internationals.

The 31-year-old hasn’t featured as often as he would have hoped for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side since his January move on loan from Juventus.

Injuries have curtailed that game time but his importance for Wales means Page has selected him and Ramsey’s two managers appear set to meet soon over his fitness.

Rangers

“Me and Aaron have been in constant contact,” Page said, as quoted by Wales Online. “I’ve not spoken to the manager.

“I’ve spoken with Aaron and I trust in my medical team that have been in contact with Rangers’ medical team and that’s what’s important to us.

“There’s no lying. The numbers are there in terms of what he’s been doing and how he’s been training. But I will be in contact with the manager. Up to now, I haven’t been but before I meet up on camp I absolutely will be.

“Aaron’s got to an age now where he looks after his body really well. So I’m not worried about that.

“I know he’ll be training right. I know he’ll be fully prepared. he’s proved it in the past. He’s had similar circumstances where he’s not played domestic football and come on camp and smashed two games back to back. Both away. Tough physical games. So I’m not concerned.”

Worrying times

We saw a glimpse of what Ramsey can really do in the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dundee on Sunday and van Bronckhorst will have enjoyed the display the Welshman put on at Dens Park.

He is starting to find his groove in a Rangers shirt having had much of his time in Glasgow interrupted by injuries and the good form of the Gers’ midfield.

Now he has begun to play like the supreme talent he is, van Bronckhorst will be very keen to keep him fit and two tough away trips with his national side might not help in that regard.

While he can gain some more valuable match sharpness with Wales, he could also get a sizeable bang which puts him back on the treatment table again and that is the absolute last thing we need right now.
