John Hartson makes surprise Rangers Europa League prediction

John Hartson believes that it is not beyond Rangers to win the Europa League this season ahead of their match on Thursday.

Gers registered an emphatic 3-0 win in the first leg of their clash against Red Star Belgrade at Ibrox.

They go into the second leg as overwhelming favourites, with spot in the final eight up for grabs.

Speaking on Go Radio, Celtic legend Hartson said, “Both clubs know the carrot at the end of the season, and Rangers will have to go some (to win the Europa League).

“Listen it’s not beyond all realms for them to go on and win the Europa League, they got to a final several years ago and both clubs did it within a matter of a few years.

“The way they are playing, particularly away from home, with Morelos on fire and the atmosphere they create at Ibrox when they play at home; they trounce teams when they play with that crowd behind them, big sides as well.”

Stunning

It comes as a shock to see Hartson backing Rangers to do well in the Europa League.

We expected him to play down their chances, given his Celtic allegiances.

However, he was spot on about what he said there, especially with regards to Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian forward is in red hot form and with him firing, Gers could be confident of beating any team.

The likes of Barcelona and Sevilla will certainly pose a major threat to them, but upsets are part and parcel of the European game and anything can happen.

In other Rangers news, the club may sign a Dutch international to replace Allan McGregor and the keeper’s contract also expires in the summer.
