Trevor Sinclair: Aaron Ramsey will be ‘very influential’ for Rangers before season ends

Aaron Ramsey will be a “threat to Celtic” over the closing weeks of the season and will “affect the league” says Trevor Sinclair.

The on-loan Juventus star has struggled for game time since his January move, arriving short of match-fitness after struggling with injury in Turin.

But he played 79 minutes in the 3-0 Scottish cup victory at Dundee on Sunday (13 March) and the former England winger, who is a big Hoops fan, thinks he may well have a say in the title race.

TalkSPORT pundit Sinclair said, via Football Scotland: “The medical staff and fitness people will have wanted to get him to a certain level.

“Once he’s up and running, I’ve no doubt he’ll affect the team – and the league.

“He’ll do that with goals, assists, energy and quality which we’ve seen over the last 15 years and that’s not going to change.

“He can play different positions and isn’t a bad finisher either. He’ll have a lot to offer. Hopefully not enough! But I think he could be very influential.

“He’s a top-class performer and he’s going to be a threat to Celtic, for sure.”

The time is now

It has been a frustrating and disappointing time in Glasgow so far for the ex-Arsenal star.

His late-window signing was greeted with much excitement among Gers fans but it has not so far panned out.

The fact that he was available at all was a clear indicator that this was a risk but the potential upside is significant.

There is still plenty of time for the Welshman to come good at Ibrox, with the club still fighting on three fronts and sure to need contributions from the whole squad.

Although visions of him controlling the midfield game after game have not manifested in reality, it won’t take much for him to change the narrative around his spell in a Light Blue shirt.

If the 31-year-old is able to come up with just a few telling involvements at the business end of three competitions’ campaigns then he will be considered a success.

The remaining Old Firm games will go a long way to determining how this season pans out, with Gers trailing their old rivals by three points in the league and drawn against them in the cup semis.

If Ramsey can make his mark on a couple of those games then he can easily cement his place in Bears history.

In other Rangers news, the Australian sports minister has issued a strong warning to Glasgow fans.
