Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos set for summer Ibrox exit – Charlie Nicholas

Charlie Nicholas believes Rangers are “guaranteed” to sell talisman Alfredo Morelos before he runs his Ibrox contract down too far.

The Columbian’s contract expires at the end of the 2023 season and speculation has grown since he changed his agent.

Nicholas wrote in his Scottish Daily Express column: “A lot of players run down their contracts but I would expect Rangers to sell him in the last year.

“They knocked back £15million a couple of years ago but you are probably looking at about £10million now. If they were to get to that then Rangers should take it.

“Morelos could extend their run in Europe and help them win the league and then it is a different ball game altogether with guaranteed Champions League football.

“I know how the agency business works because I was involved in it for a long time. I would say the football world looks to be getting on a better financial footing.

“The January window was a bit busier. What I would say is this Europa League run maintains the value of the Rangers’ players.

“Morelos’ value has probably crept up again. When you change agents it is normally because they have a club or two in the pipeline.”

Inevitable?

This has been a long time coming for Morelos. Rangers fans have tried to put it to the back of their mind for as long as possible, but the reports aren’t looking too pretty.

The Gers did well to stand firm to keep the dynamo last season but that mightn’t be the smartest move this summer.

As much as the Bears want to keep their star man for as long as possible, it wouldn’t be smart to let him run his contract down and get no money for the Columbian international.

Morelos is a great player who is likely to move to a club willing to pay good money for his service, money that could be reinvested back into the squad.

Obviously, everyone at the club would want to see him stay but Gers fans all know the score by now.

Hopefully, he can bring the club a lot more success in Europe and the league this season if he does end up departing in the summer.
