Alfredo Morelos could leave Rangers for big money this summer – Kris Commons

Alfredo Morelos has put himself back in the shop window with his recent performances for Rangers and could be set for a big-money move away this summer, according to Kris Commons.

The Colombian striker has scored 18 goals this season and has been a key man in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side since the Dutchman replaced Steven Gerrard in November.

Speaking in his Scottish Daily Mail column [March 14, Page 16 The Verdict], ex-Celtic star Commons believes that his recent performances are putting him in the shop window, but that Rangers could convince him to sign a new deal if they continue to impress in Europe.

“Morelos was an animal against Red Star,” he said. “After doing what he did to Dortmund and Hummels, it was so impressive to see him back it up with another big performance.

“Sustaining that form from now until the end of the season will obviously be key to Rangers’ title chances.

“Even with just a year left on his contract, he could attract a big-money bid from abroad or down south in the summer.

“Maybe somewhere around the £10-15m bracket. With just 12 months left to go on his contract last summer, Odsonne Edouard was in the same position and Celtic sold him for £14m.

“That’s the sort of money Rangers could be looking at if Morelos maintains this form, which is a hell of a lot more than they looked like they would get for him just a few months ago.

“He might even commit himself to a new deal if he feels like sticking around at Ibrox under Van Bronckhorst. Winning the title and getting into the Champions League will be key to that.

“But there’s no doubt he has put himself firmly back into the shop window with some of his recent performances.”

Huge

Morelos’ resurgence since the arrival of Van Bronckhorst at Ibrox has been unbelievable and that newfound joy from the Colombian is showing on the pitch.

He is without a doubt the best striker in the country and with just 12 months left on his deal, Rangers should be doing everything they can to tie him down to fresh terms.

As Commons says, winning the Scottish Premiership title would be a good way of helping sway him towards staying but European success would be a much more important factor.

Their performances in the Europa League so far have put them on the brink of a quarter-final place, and once you’re there anything can happen. Champions League football is important, and Morelos loves the club.

If he does leave, the Bears should demand top dollar for El Buffalo and have plenty of precedents to demand an eight-figure fee but that may not be enough to replace him adequately.
