Barry Ferguson shares ‘worry’ he has over Rangers ace Aaron Ramsey

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has admitted his ‘frustration’ at not seeing Aaron Ramsey against Red Star, revealing it’s a ‘worry’ in his Daily Record column.

Rangers claimed a huge 3-0 win at Ibrox in the Europa League last 16 first leg, but January signing Ramsey was an unused substitute in the game despite the big lead.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been limited in his opportunity to use Ramsey due to injury problems since his arrival, but Ferguson says there is bound to be ‘concern’ around him not getting on the pitch.

“The one frustration was again not getting to see Aaron Ramsey,” he said. “I thought when it went to 3-0 then we’d get to see him. The worry is that he’s not getting on the pitch as the fans are desperate to see him.

“Who knows what the situation is? If you get the chance to sign a guy of his ability then you sign him.

“But it’s a concern not to have him on the pitch as who knows what type of contribution he can make.

“There must be reasons and the manager mustn’t think he’s ready yet. As fans we don’t see what level he’s at in training and all the rest of it.”

Wasted

Ramsey came with a huge reputation and expectation after his loan move from Juventus was confirmed, but so far it’s been a bit of a waste of time.

The Welsh superstar has made a handful of appearances with most of them coming from the bench, and in his only start he got hurt.

Now as the season enters the final run-in and results become ever more important, it seems as though Van Bronckhorst just simply can’t trust him to be relied upon.

It means that Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Glen Kamara lay ahead of him in the pecking order and it seems that he’s going to find it very hard to break into the side now.

With a permanent move unlikely to happen in the summer based on what we’ve seen so far, is there much point in trying to get him more game time? Probably not, if we’re being honest.
