Red Star Belgrade Twitter admin posts frustrated reaction after Rangers victory

The Red Star Belgrade Twitter admin was unhappy with their side’s fortunes as Rangers ran out 3-0 winners in the Europa League.

A post from the account on the final whistle referred to all the things that went against the visitors on the night, using a local reference to urine to call it “a [expletive] evening” at Ibrox.

Goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Leon Balogun set Gers up excellently for the return leg, while Allan McGregor brilliantly saved a penalty as part of the home goal leading an especially charmed life.

In a post on the Serbian side’s English language Twitter account, the admin wrote: “FULL TIME | Tonight we’ve put the ball in Rangers’ net three times with neither goal counting. Missed a penalty, conceded a penalty, hit the bar, missed chances, lost 3-0. This was a [expletive] evening, but the tie isn’t over. See yous in Belgrade!”

In response to a Light Blues fan piling on to point out 40-year-old McGregor had made the penalty save, sarcastically hoping they were being helpful, the Red Star account replied: “No, not really.”

Fine margins

Bears fans won’t care in the slightest but the luck was certainly with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

The Serbian champions will be feeling particularly hard done by as they return home with nothing to show for their efforts, perhaps why manager Dejan Stankovic appeared to storm down the tunnel without a handshake at full time.

They can have little to argue about though aside from bad luck, as the VAR showed all three offside calls were correct.

Even if Ryan Kent’s penalty win early on was on the softer side, the referee awarded one to each side, and Gers’ Scottish keeper did what his opposite number could not by producing a great save.

Aleksandar Katai is surely feeling worst of all as he put the ball in the net twice to no avail and it was his penalty that was kept out.

The away side’s social media admin likely spoke for most of their fans in reaction to the result in Glasgow.

They know they have everything to do back in Belgrade, where the Light Blues will have to be on their guard against a comeback.

In other Rangers news, Derek McInnes slammed “numpties” for doubting one Ibrox player after last night.
