James Tavernier reacts on Twitter after Rangers win v Red Star Belgrade

James Tavernier has shared his reaction on Twitter after Rangers won 3-0 against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday.

The skipper was outstanding during the game as the Gers took a big step towards reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.

Two goals in the first half from Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos had set the tempo, while Leon Balogun added another in the second half.

The visitors had a chance to crawl back into the game after they were awarded a penalty. However, Allan McGregor produced a fantastic save and ensured the Gers keep a clean sheet.

Tavernier posted a six-word message on Twitter: “European Nights at Ibrox are special.”

Outstanding

Tavernier is absolutely spot on here.

European nights require a big atmosphere, and Ibrox was rocking last night. A big performance was needed ahead of a daunting trip to Belgrade, and certainly the players rose to the occasion.

Under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Rangers have been brilliant in Europe thus far, although the same can’t be said about their domestic form.

The Bears were superb over the two-legs in their 6-4 aggregate win against Borussia Dortmund, but the challenge here was something else.

Rangers

Rangers will now feel comfortable ahead of their return leg but Van Bronckhorst has warned his players that the job is only half done.

Tavernier has shown time and again why he is so crucial and inspirational for the club. He hardly disappoints in big games.

The Rajko Mitic Stadium has a reputation of producing a daunting atmosphere, but the Gers should feel confident about reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in 14 years.

In other Rangers news, Mark Hateley is baffled by Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s decisions.
