View: Glenn Kamara disappoints with 4/10, Morelos king with 9 – Rangers player ratings v Red Star

Rangers turned in a wonderful performance yet again to claim a huge 3-0 victory over Red Star at Ibrox in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday night.

Ryan Kent was brought down for a penalty after just ten minutes which James Tavernier blasted into the top corner, before Alfredo Morelos smashed in a rebound after a corner was partially headed away for 2-0 after just 15 minutes.

Red Star refused to go away and were awarded a penalty of their own after Ryan Jack tugged the shirt of the opposition player, but Allan McGregor produced a stunning save to deny him as they went into the break 2-0 up.

Leon Balogun rose highest early in the second half to head home from a corner to make it 3-0 as the Bears ensured they take a dominant lead with them to Serbia next week.

Here are the player ratings from Ibrox News for the performance against Red Star:

Allan McGregor – 8/10

Organised the defence superbly and made a stunning save from the first half penalty as well as other saves. Really fired back at the criticism he’s received.

James Tavernier – 8/10

A brilliant captain’s performance from the right-back. On the scoresheet, earned an assist and defended brilliantly throughout. What a player.

Connor Goldson – 6/10

A solid performance defensively, but the Serbians did get through him a few times too many for their liking. Luckily, McGregor was alert.

Leon Balogun – 7/10

Came into the side and slotted in perfectly alongside his fellow defenders. Rose like a salmon for the goal that may have put this tie out of sight of their opposition.

Calvin Bassey – 7/10

Moved across to left-back and was excellent once again, running up and down the flank all night showing good ability on the ball and great defensive awareness too.

Ryan Jack – 5/10

Not the best performance from the midfielder. Gave away a penalty and couldn’t put himself about like normal because of the yellow card for the rest of the game.

Glen Kamara – 4/10

He didn’t do much wrong, but the game kind of just passed him by in fairness. If he doesn’t play in the next game he can have no complaints.

John Lundstram – 6/10

Switched between holding midfield and third centre-back throughout the game seamlessly and offered good control throughout. Another solid performance.

Joe Aribo – 6/10

One of his less influential nights, but he was still excellent in transition and dangerous on the ball. A decent performance overall.

Ryan Kent – 8/10

The tricky speedster delivered again. He was a constant threat out on the left with his dribbling and won yet another vital penalty to get the goals flowing. A top performance.

Alfredo Morelos – 9/10

There’s nobody better for the big occasion in Glasgow. El Buffalo did it again with his 32nd European goal for the club and he bullied the defenders all night with his constant running and physicality. What a performance.
