Chris Sutton shares instant reaction to Rangers 3-0 win v Red Star
Chris Sutton said Rangers ‘spoilt’ his birthday but congratulated them on their 3-0 win over Red Star in the Europa League last 16 at Ibrox.
The light blues earned an emphatic win thanks to goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Leon Balogun to give them a dominant lead heading into next week’s second leg.
Goalkeeper Allan McGregor saved a penalty too to keep a clean sheet and Sutton, who was celebrating his 49th birthday on the day, sent out a congratulatory tweet to the Bears for their result.
Sutton said his lovely day had been ‘spoilt’ at the end, but said ‘well done to Rangers’ followed by two clapping emojis.
Rangers now have a huge advantage heading into the second leg in Serbia next Thursday, where if they can avoid a heavy defeat will see them progress into the Europa League quarter-finals for the first time.
Huge
It was a huge performance from Rangers, who were dominant and used the crowd to their advantage to really push throughout the 90 minutes.
Red Star had their moments, having three goals correctly ruled out for offside and missing a penalty, but the team did really well to not let it rattle them and stay mentally strong.

They were solid for the most part outside of that, and going forward were constantly a threat as they scored three of their own and forced the Red Star keeper into a few saves too.
Now they must look to take that form into the domestic season, as they look to chase down Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
They currently trail their Old Firm rivals by three points, but will travel to take on Dundee in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals this weekend before the second leg on Thursday.
