Van Bronckhorst shares major Aaron Ramsey fitness update ahead of Rangers v Red Star Belgrade

Aaron Ramsey will be available for Rangers on Thursday night when they take on Red Star Belgrade in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie at Ibrox.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday [9 March], Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed that Ramsey, 31, will be on the bench for a second consecutive match after barely featuring since his January loan move from Juventus.

Steven Davis and Ianis Hagi are the only two senior players who’ll definitely be ruled out against Red Star but van Bronckhorst is happy to have Ramsey back in the side.

“Ramsey will be in the squad but will not be starting,” van Bronckhorst said, as quoted on Rangers’ official Twitter account on Wednesday [9 March].

“For us, the most important thing is to have individual programmes for each player to return to full fitness. I’m happy to have Ramsey back in the squad and working hard to get Davis and Hagi back also.”

Still time to prove himself

Ramsey’s move to Ibrox has so far been a failure.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder has managed to play just four times for the Gers in all competitions and his only start came in the Scottish Cup win over Annan last month.

Everyone had a lot to say about Ramsey’s loan move to Glasgow and everyone pointed out his injury issues.

And yes, he’s had injuries already since joining us on loan and it’s really not worked out for the Welshman so far.

However, there are still a couple of months left to go of the season and Ramsey can still play a massive role in both domestic and European competitions.

He needs to get himself match-fit first and his most recent setback isn’t going to do the midfielder any good.

He’s barely kicked a ball for the Gers against a team that’s not Annan and that needs to change.

Hopefully he’ll get a good cameo against Red Star before being able to potentially get into the starting line-up within the next week or two.

In other Rangers news, a Sky Sports journalist has shared what one of his sources at Hampden Park has told him about a recent Ibrox controversy.
