Rangers Europa League opponents hilariously attempt Glaswegian on Twitter

Red Star Belgrade have landed in Scotland ahead of Thursday evening’s Europa League round of 16 tie against Rangers at Ibrox.

The Serbian champions posted pictures on their Twitter account of the team arriving at Glasgow airport and attempted a little bit of Glaswegian slang in their caption.

“We’re off on ah wee trip tae Glasgow like. Gaun yersel, red and whites!” they tweeted as they appeared in high spirits ahead of Thursday’s first leg.

Crvena Zvezda comes into the big game off the back of a resounding 5-0 win in their domestic title hunt against bitter rivals Partizan.

Rangers find themselves in a remarkably similar scenario although they could only scrape past Aberdeen 1-0 on Saturday in their pursuit of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Vice versa?

The majority of big European clubs have English-speaking accounts and Red Star Belgrade are no different.

This tweet appears to have gained quite a substantial amount of traction with nearly 1,000 likes at the time of writing.

Rangers

If Rangers were to try the old switcheroo for the return leg and tweet in Serbian, it seems somehow unlikely it would get so much attention.

The Light Blues will have aspirations of becoming one of the continent’s biggest clubs in the future and to do that they may have to start considering foreign-speaking social media accounts.

It isn’t the first port of call when you consider expanding your fanbase but almost every big club is doing it these days and the Gers can’t be left behind.

Such an account may even help Giovanni van Bronckhorst and future managers in signing talents from abroad with a natural translator readily available should they be required.

In other Rangers news, a spokesperson for the club has come out to deny “factually inaccurate” claims surrounding the Old Firm.
