Steven Davis ruled out amid multiple injury doubts: Early Rangers team news v Red Star Belgrade

Steven Davis has been ruled out for Rangers when they take on Red Star Belgrade at Ibrox on Thursday night, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed.

Davis, 37, hasn’t featured for the Light Blues since starting in the win against Annan Athletic on 6 February.

Speaking to the media today (9 March), van Bronckhorst says that Davis will not be available in the Europa League last-16 first leg this week while he’s also got a couple of other injury doubts.

Davis made 370 appearances across two five-season spells at Rangers.

“Davis is not available as he has an injury,” van Bronckhorst said, as quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account.

“We have a couple [of] doubts for tomorrow but we will be fine.”

Nothing to worry about

We’re not worried about missing Davis because the experienced Northern Irishman hasn’t really been that great this season.

The 37-year-old was superb last term but his form has notably dipped this time around and he’s started to suffer more and more injury and fitness issues.

We’d be shocked if Davis is still at Ibrox as a player next season but looking ahead to the clash against Red Star, we’re hoping that the other injury doubts are not key players.

Aaron Ramsey, Amad Diallo and Ryan Jack are among the players who’ve recently had injury issues.

Out of those three, we’d pray that Jack will be fit because we’re so much better when we have the ex-Aberdeen midfielder available.

We can live without Ramsey, who’s yet to prove his worth since joining on loan from Juventus in January, and the same with Manchester United loanee Diallo.

But Jack is vital and hopefully he’ll be ready to start against Red Star, in what could be a very tough clash for the Gers amid a recent slump in their domestic form.
