John Hartson predicts what could decide Rangers v Celtic title race

John Hartson believes that the title race could be decided by a refereeing howler, given how Rangers and Celtic are still to play each other twice.

The Celtic legend claims that the memories of 2003 have left a scar on him and he would not be surprised if history repeated itself.

Recently, Celtic scored a goal from a corner that was wrongly awarded while Tom Rogic also used his hand in the build-up for another strike.

Discussing these decisions and the probable ramifications on the title race, Hartson told the Daily Record, “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was decided by refereeing decisions. I think we all have to get prepared for that.

“I’ve had it myself, two goals against Rangers. I was three yards onside in the League Cup final (in 2003). I still feel sick every time I look at it.

“I wouldn’t want to be a referee. It is ridiculously hard to get all the calls right. They must rely on their linesmen to help. If the ref’s 50 yards away, or 40 yards, or 30 yards, the linesman should be up to speed if he is on that side.”

Hartson still cannot get over one wrong decision nearly two decades ago.

The title will be decided based on quality and which team has the hunger for it.

It seemed that the Gers were in the driver’s seat, but a shock defeat in the Old Firm, tilted the scales in Celtic’s favour.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to get his players engaged for battles against Celtic because it may come down to mentality.

These players have shown that they’ve got it last season and it’s time for them to channel it again this time around.

In other Rangers news, the club may sign a Dutch international to replace Allan McGregor and the keeper’s contract also expires in the summer.
