Cedric Itten axed to Rangers B for City of Glasgow Cup clash v Queen’s Park
Cedric Itten has found himself axed to the Rangers B team as his absence from Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s senior side continues.
Itten, 25, was named in the starting line-up for the B team’s City of Glasgow Cup clash with Queen’s Park at Auchenhowie today [8 March].
As confirmed on the Gers B team’s official Twitter account, he starts up front while January signing Mateusz Zukowski is also handed some minutes.

Pointless
Why on earth did Rangers recall Itten from Greuther Furth in January?
The Swiss international was on loan at the German Bundesliga club and playing most matches.
While he’d scored just two goals in 12 appearances for Greuther Furth, one of them came surprisingly in a game against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
He’s now playing B team football against Queen’s Park.

We have no idea why Itten was recalled when it was clear last season that the ex-Basel striker is nowhere near good enough for the Gers.
If we’re playing Motherwell, great. But if we’re playing anyone else, the Swiss forward lumbered around the pitch, doing little worth mentioning.
Itten’s been a poor signing for Rangers and he’s been an even worse returning loanee by making absolutely no impact since his return.
Van Bronckhorst’s decisions to recall Itten, play him a couple of times and then leave him out of six matchday squads in the Scottish Premiership is a real head-scratcher.
Even if he does well against Queen’s Park today, we doubt it’ll get him back into van Bronckhorst’s first-team plans and again, it begs the question as to why he was recalled when surely playing regular Bundesliga football is far more beneficial than a City of Glasgow Cup game.
