Chris Jack issues update on Connor Goldson’s Rangers exit

Chris Jack believes that this summer is the ideal time for defender Connor Goldson to leave Rangers.

The English centre-back has been a mainstay in the Gers side despite growing links with a move to the Premier League as well as the EFL Championship.

With his contract running out at the end of the season and Goldson looking no closer to penning an extension, he could be heading south of the border.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Glasgow Times’ Jack said, “I think the timing is probably right. If Connor fancies another crack at England, it’s going to be this summer.”

Let him go

Goldson hasn’t seemed keen to stay beyond the summer since the season began.

All of last summer, he was linked with a move and had the opportunity to sign an extension, but he chose not to.

At 29, he knows that it will be his last big deal at a club and he appears to fancy returning to England.

Whether or not he moves to a Premier League side, remains to be seen, as he surely would have aspirations of playing in the English top flight.

Not only would that mean more money and greater exposure, it may also put him in contention for the England squad.

Gareth Southgate has always picked players on merit and if Goldson performs, there’s no reason why he wouldn’t give him a shot.

Also, John Souttar is already on his way to Ibrox in the summer so Goldson’s replacement has been found.

In other Rangers news, the club may sign a Dutch international to replace Allan McGregor and the keeper’s contract also expires in the summer.
