Van Bronckhorst shares what he told Rangers players in 1-0 win v Aberdeen

Rangers have levelled on points with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership after winning 1-0 against Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday (5 March).

The visitors made it difficult for the Gers who celebrated 150 years of their foundation, but they somehow managed to pick up vital three points.

Just when it seemed, Rangers could be set for yet another frustrating result, substitute Kemar Roofe scored a crucial goal, netting from close range in the 81st minute.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has shared after the game what he told his players at the break after an insipid first-half display.

The Dutchman said, as quoted by The Scottish Sun: “We didn’t have many clear chances in the first half.

“But, I said to the players that a game lasts 90 minutes and if you score within 90 minutes and extra time you still win games.”

Big win

Aberdeen gave a strong fight in the first half and the Gers found it difficult to find the right balance.

Van Bronckhorst made three changes to the side from the last game. Ryan Jack, who replaced the in-form John Lundstrum, was the central driving force.

Calvin Bassey was moved to central defence from left-back with Leon Balogun dropped to the bench.

The Gers did improve after the break but their attacks looked disjointed. However, a moment of brilliance from the Champions sealed all three points.

Glen Kamara sent over a cross that was headed by James Tavernier before Roofe tapped in from close range.

Rangers will have to switch attention to European games where they face Red Star Belgrade in Europa League last-16 first leg at home on Thursday.

The Dons remain third-bottom of the table without a win in 10 games. They are still looking for their first victory under new manager Jim Goodwin.

The Gers are now unbeaten in nine since their shocking defeat against Celtic, and they can feel confident after looking at the league table.

In other Rangers news, the club may sign a Dutch international to replace Allan McGregor and the keeper’s contract also expires in the summer.
