Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst slams substitute critics

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has stood by his decision not to make use of his bench in recent games despite poor performances.

The Dutchman has come under heavy criticism after not making any substitutions in the Gers’ 2-2 draw with Motherwell as well as waiting until the 83rd minute to introduce his only sub of the game in a lacklustre 1-0 win against St. Johnstone last time out.

He told Herald Scotland: “It differs which games you play. Of course, you have substitutions looking for the game and how the game is going but I don’t care about how many substitutions I make, I care about the three points.

“That was only on my mind on the game on Wednesday. Of course, people will talk about no substitutions or whatever but it doesn’t bother me.

“I just want to go out, get the three points and take each game by game.”

He knows best

It can be very frustrating as a fan, watching a flat performance when there are options that can come on and make a difference from the bench but surely the Gers boss knows best.

He spends every day with these players and knows who can come on and make an impact.

It is probably the players on the bench who need a serious look at. They obviously aren’t performing well enough in training to show they deserve a chance and nobody springs to mind when thinking of players who have come on to make a massive impact in recent weeks.

The Bears will be helped by the returns of Filip Helander, Ryan Jack and Aaron Ramsey for the Dons clash as they look to rediscover their form.

The main thing is that Rangers win their remaining games. It doesn’t really matter if he uses all three subs or none in each match, just go out and win.
