Pundit blown away by ‘sensational’ Sakala in Rangers 2-2 draw v Motherwell

Kevin Thomson was wowed by Fashion Sakala’s goal for Rangers in their 2-2 draw against Motherwell at Ibrox on Sunday.

Sakala, 24, scored his ninth goal of the season for the Light Blues to put them 2-0 up against the Steelemen in the first half of their Scottish Premiership clash.

However, the away side came back in the second half and Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men dropped what would have been two massive points in the title race.

Still, RangersTV pundit Thomson, who’s also the Kelty Hearts manager, was impressed by Sakala’s goal.

“It’s a sensational finish. It really is, coming across his body,” said Thomson on RangersTV on Saturday [27 February, 03:23pm].

“It’s all from Ryan Kent, he’s at his best when he’s dribbling fast.

“You can see Steven O’Donnell backing off with the speed Ryan travels. It might not be the perfect cross and there are multiple people attacking it.

“But it falls perfectly for Sakala and it is just sheer quality the finish.”

The new Itten?

Shortly after Sakala’s goal, RangersTV commentator Tom Miller joked that the Zambian international is the new Cedric Itten.

He clearly likes to score against Motherwell, like the Swiss striker did last season.

In three meetings with the Fir Park club this season, Sakala has scored in all of them.

He netted a hat-trick in a 6-1 win at Fir Park on Halloween and followed that up with a sweet strike this weekend.

Sakala played well, better than most of his teammates, on Sunday as he looked lively throughout the Scottish Premiership fixture.

He was fast, direct, caused a nuisance and, of course, got his goal, which was a really sweet strike after Ryan Kent’s cross into the box.

We still want to see more from Sakala though.

If he’s going to learn anything from Itten, it’s that you cannot make a name for yourself at Ibrox by just scoring against Motherwell.

Luckily, he has found the net against other teams this season.
