Barry Ferguson: Connor Goldson has major decision to make on Rangers future after Dortmund win

Barry Ferguson has insisted that Connor Goldson now has a major decision to make on his future after Rangers smashed past Borussia Dortmund.

The defender sees his contract run out at the end of this season, and is currently free to talk to other clubs ahead of the summer.

Ferguson admitted that Goldson needs to think twice about what he’d be giving up at Ibrox should he go for another crack at the Premier League.

Writing in his latest Daily Record column, Ferguson singled out the defender and his future which is currently on the line.

“As the final whistle blew, the camera panned to Gonnor Goldson standing in the middle of that pitch, taking in the scene of absolute joy all around him,” he wrote.

“You could see on his face he was just thinking, ‘Wow.’ It’s nights like that which make you realise just how special a place Ibrox is.

“Connor has got a major decision to make in the next couple of months with his contract almost up.

“Does he stay for more of this or return back down south, perhaps for another crack at the Premier League. But he needs to consider what he’s giving up.”

Silly.

It would make no sense for Goldson to move away in the summer.

Rangers have proved that they can continue to provide these huge European nights, and why wouldn’t you want to be a part of that?

Looking at his options, moving to the Premier League would likely end most, if not all of his chances of playing in Europe again.

A move to someone such as Aston Villa wouldn’t provide it, with Steven Gerrard currently struggling and likely years away from qualification.

The only incentive in this will be money, and if Rangers can put a handsome sum on the table, he would surely be happy to stay.

Ross Wilson will be working away behind the scenes, but another win over Red Star Belgrade next month, and this could get serious.
