Rangers backed as favourites for Europa League clash by club icon Trevor Steven

Tonight is the big night for Rangers as they look to hold on to their 4-2 lead over Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Europa League tie.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side shocked the world by going to Signal Iduna Park and dominating the Bundesliga giants to give them the advantage as they welcome the Germans to Glasgow.

The Light Blues may have limped to a draw away at Dundee United at the weekend, while Dortmund pumped Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0, but that all goes out of the window come kick-off.

Gers icon Trevor Steven is confident in the players and thinks the Scottish champions are favourites to advance in front of a packed Ibrox this evening.

“I know these Dortmund players are very well experienced but I think the atmosphere tonight will even be a shock to them. Rangers as a team have to use that to their benefit,” Steven said, as quoted by The Scotsman.

“They are in good form and have really good players in the squad, particularly across midfield. Ryan Kent was particularly impressive in the Dortmund game.

“They have the ammunition and backed by that Ibrox crowd I put them down as favourites to go through.”

Shoot for the moon

It’s a huge night for the football club and van Bronckhorst and his players know exactly what is needed to complete the job this evening.

11 clear minds are all that is needed to go out into the Ibrox cauldron and compile Dortmund’s misery by executing the game plan.

The Light Blues need to expect a fast start from Marco Rose’s side and they will be full of confidence after sticking six past Gladbach at the weekend.

Erling Haaland’s absence will certainly help ease concerns at the back but Donyell Malen can cause just as many problems if the Rangers rearguard get complacent.

No need to panic though thanks to the two-goal buffer the Gers already have and if they can nick a goal early on, they might just stamp on any hopes the Bundesliga side have of turning the tie around.

In other Rangers news, Jude Bellingham was in awe of Ibrox when he walked out for training for the first time yesterday.
