Jim White: Rangers and Celtic should pay entire VAR bill if they want it that badly in Scotland

Jim White has questioned why Rangers and Celtic don’t pay the entire bill for the introduction of VAR in the Scottish Premiership.

It was reported by the Daily Mail on Tuesday (22 February) that clubs are holding back because of the bill rising to £100,000-per-annum from each side.

White hit back and insisted that if Rangers and Celtic want it so badly, they should pay the entire bill and get it rolling.

Speaking live on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan this morning (22 February, 10:35 am), the host made the suggestion.

“The Old Firm will be paying the same as Ross County,” he said.

“There is an argument, why don’t the Old Firm take care of the whole lot? Just to get it implemented if they wanted to get a better league.

“The move was packed particularly by the Old Firm, by Rangers and Celtic, who believe that Scottish football will be left behind by other leagues if it doesn’t keep up with the implementation of technology if they want it that badly, why don’t they just pay for it?”

Rangers

Nonsense.

Why on earth would Rangers and Celtic pay the entire bill?

It makes no sense whatsoever, and it is embarrassing that the other 10 clubs don’t want to play their part in bringing in this technology.

The SFA are also front a third of the bill, so it would in fact drop to around £60,000 per club, a fee that is so minuscule for something so major in terms of what it could do for Scottish football.

Yes, Rangers and Celtic are worth much more, but them paying for the entire bill undermines the entire division.

English football is pushing ahead with plans to introduce the technology into their lower leagues, and that happening before it comes to Scotland would be a joke.

Something needs to be worked out quickly.
