BBC journalist Tom English hits back at data from Rangers draw v Dundee United on Twitter

Tom English has hit back at damning data from Rangers 1-1 draw against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Jonny McFarlane crunched the numbers from Tannadice, showing the home side only won that game once out of 100 attempts.

Rangers battered the Dundee United goal only to be frustrated, with no chances conceded after the 52nd minute on their own goal.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, English hit back at the data on show from Tannadice over the weekend.

“I’m all for data, Jonny, but there seems to be a lot of data for data sake going around these days,” he wrote. “Anybody watching that game with eyes in their head knows what they need to know.

“We can overdose on data sometimes. Maybe it’s just me.”

Shocker.

Looking at these numbers, it all comes flooding back and it still appears impossible to us that we didn’t leave with the win.

Of course, it didn’t help us in the title race, but we would much rather draw after creating all these chances than have played shocking and created nothing.

On another day, the home side would have been embarrassed, and that is not good news for our next domestic opponents Motherwell and St Johnstone.

First, we need to get past Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, and with a two-gaol cushion, we’re hoping that putting away a couple of chances will secure that passage.

English may not care about the stats, but he’s most likely just trying to be different and go against anything to do with the Bears – cheer up.
