Rangers should sign Benjamin Siegrist after stubborn display in front of van Bronckhorst
Rangers toiled to a 1-1 draw away at Dundee United on Sunday but Giovanni van Bronckhorst may have witnessed his next goalkeeper first hand.
The Tangerines’ shot-stopper Benjamin Siegrist was very stubborn in between the sticks as only a Joe Aribo effort could breach his goal at Tannadice.
The Daily Mail reported that the Light Blues had entered the race for the 30-year-old Swiss along with Southampton but no offers were made in January.
He will be a free agent in the summer as he continues not to sign a new deal at Tannadice and the Gers want to bring him in for no fee ahead of next season to replace 40-year-old Allan McGregor.
Sunday’s epic display in goal will certainly have piqued van Bronckhorst’s interest in Siegrist, even if he is initially frustrated at not winning a game they completely dominated with 74% of the ball and 29 shots.
McGregor probably has one more year in him at a good enough level but that is very much up in the air and a new number one is needed at Ibrox.

Jon McLaughlin has signed a new deal at the club but he lacks experience comparatively to Siegrist and it would be a big ask to throw him into the firing line so early.
The free-agent market is one van Bronckhorst is happy to explore with Hearts defender John Souttar already coming to Glasgow next season to solidify the defence.
He will surely want to see Siegrist behind him when he turns around over McLaughlin who is rather an unknown quantity.
If Rangers are serious about challenging both domestically and on the continent, then they need to invest and Siegrist is a great path to do that while not spending a penny – on a transfer fee at least.
