Rangers receive boost with Giovanni Reyna a ‘severe doubt’ for Ibrox clash

Rangers have been handed a boost ahead of the second leg of their Europa League knockout tie against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday (February 24).

The Gers will be looking to cement their place in the next round after securing an emphatic 4-2 victory at the Signal Iduna Park.

19-wonderkid Giovanni Reyna is a severe doubt for the Ibrox clash having come off injured just 27 minutes into his first start since August against Monchengladbach, as per the Glasgow Times

Domestic distraction

This game is huge for the Light Blues. Not many expected them to get a positive result against the German giants, never mind a win in the manner in which they did.

They ran riot in Germany, and it is such a shame that UEFA scrapped the away goal rule as that would only strengthen the Gers’ chances going into the second leg.

It is imperative Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team play with the same tenacity that won them the game in the first leg which shouldn’t be hard with the breath-taking atmosphere that will be in full force at Ibrox.

Rangers

The Bears have benefitted from some good fortune. Dortmund’s best player Erling Haaland missed the first encounter through injury but could make a return for the return fixture.

Hopefully, he misses the trip to Glasgow along with fellow young sensation Reyna who left the pitch crying against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Everyone at the club will be hugely disappointed with the weekend’s draw with Dundee United which allowed Celtic a three-point cushion at the top of the table.

However, this European run is offering quite a nice distraction from the current domestic troubles and who knows how long it will last. Can they go all the way if they move past one of the competition’s favourites in Borussia Dortmund?
