Kris Commons delivers verdict on Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey
Kris Commons is not convinced with the signing of Aaron Ramsey after Rangers drew 1-1 against Dundee United away from Ibrox on Sunday [20 February].
After securing a memorable 4-2 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League, the Gers crashed back down to earth with a poor result.
Commons has suggested Ramsey may not get into the strongest first-team XI at Rangers, despite Glen Kamara “losing his way.”

Commons has suggested Glen Kamara’s loss of form opened the door for Ramsey, but his fitness remains a big issue. The Welshman missed the game after he reportedly picked up a knock.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Commons said (printed edition; 21 February, page 3]: “Given the manner of the performance in Dortmund, and the form of Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo and John Lundstram, I felt Aaron Ramsey might not get into Rangers’ strongest team.
“Glen Kamara seems to have lost his way slightly which might have opened up a door for Ramsey, but he wasn’t in the squad at all yesterday due to injury.
“Time is running out for him to make any sort of appreciable impact at Ibrox. He was signed to make the difference in the title race, to help Rangers unlock stuffy defences with his passing and vision.
“Yesterday was exactly the kind of game where they’d have hoped he could help, but he wasn’t fit enough to play any part.”
Worrying
It’s a worrying sign for Giovani van Bronckhorst and Rangers.
While it will be unfair to say that the Gers are crumbling down as they had done previously under Steven Gerrard, they need to give more attention to their away form in the league.
Rangers have now picked up only three points from their last four away games. They have squandered the lead in the title race, and now they are trailing behind Celtic.

Obviously, there are still a lot of games left to be played. There are two Old Firm derbies yet to be settled, and Rangers still have time to close the gap and win the league. However, their away form is a big headache.
As for Ramsey is concerned, it’s been really frustrating for everyone. The Juventus midfielder, who joined on loan, was brought in to make a difference, but so far, he hasn’t been able to deliver.
