BBC pundit Ferguson slams ‘heart-hearted’ Diallo in Rangers 1-1 draw v Dundee United

Derek Ferguson slammed Amad Diallo for his lacklustre performance off the bench as Rangers drew 1-1 with Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday.

Diallo, 19, was substituted into the Scottish Premiership clash in the 73rd minute to replace Filip Helander as Giovanni van Bronckhorst went for broke.

However, the on-loan Manchester United winger didn’t have the desired impact and struck the post when he was in on goal in a one-on-one situation.

Ferguson was less than impressed by Diallo’s cameo appearance.

“When you come on the park, you’ve got to be ready,” said Ferguson on BBC Sportsound on Sunday [20 February], as quoted on the BBC Sport website.

“Amad Diallo just looks a bit half-hearted, so he’s got to produce something.”

Underwhelming

Is anyone else a bit annoyed by Diallo’s performances since he arrived on loan from Manchester United in January?

The Ivory Coast international hasn’t had too many opportunities to strut his stuff in Scotland but he’s played five times now and hasn’t really stood out in any of them.

Yes, he scored quickly in his debut against Ross County but since then, it’s all been very drab from the highly-rated winger.

You can see why he hasn’t been in the picture at Manchester United based on his few performances here in Scotland but we hope that this spurs him onto playing much better in the coming weeks.

Right now, we need Diallo. We need someone to make that right-wing role their own but as it stands, van Bronckhorst would understandably rather play players out of their natural position there.

Diallo was an unused substitute against Hibernian and then again against Borussia Dortmund, which suggests to us that van Bronckhorst is also unimpressed by his January loan signing.

In other Rangers news, Andy Walker reacted to one incident in the second half that should’ve been a penalty.
