BBC journalist Tom English: Last-gasp Celtic win over Dundee ‘sickener’ for Rangers
Celtic’s last-gasp win over Dundee on Sunday was a “sickener” for Rangers, according to BBC Scotland journalist Tom English.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men were held to a 1-1 draw at Dundee United earlier on Sunday before Giorgos Giakoumakis’ hat-trick earned Celtic a 3-2 win over Dundee at Parkhead.
It was 2-2 until the 86th minute when Giakoumakis rounded off his treble, leading to English taking to Twitter to deliver his verdict on the Celtic forward plus the impact of the result across Glasgow.
“We’re now seeing what made Giakoumakis such a success last season in the Eredivisie,” said English via his personal Twitter account on 20 February.
“Three classic centre-forward goals from a combined distance of…not very much. He’s found his feet.
“Big winner, that. Sickener for Dundee. And Rangers.”
Not good enough
We cannot afford to keep looking across Glasgow at Celtic’s results and the focus should be on what we’re doing.
And right now, we’re not doing enough in the Scottish Premiership to be able to retain it.
Dundee United have taken way too many points off this team this season – it’s unacceptable.
How can this team be capable of winning 4-2 away against Borussia Dortmund but then in the Scottish Premiership, struggle against teams like Dundee United, Ross County and Motherwell?
It doesn’t make sense.
We did get a bit unlucky against Dundee United and we should have had a couple of penalties.
However, that should not be an excuse because these players are more than good enough to win matches without having to rely on referees spotting fouls inside the penalty area.
On Thursday, Dortmund will be at Ibrox and we know that the players will put in 110 per cent effort to win that game and get into the last-16 of the Europa League.
But will they try as hard when Motherwell visit Ibrox next Sunday? They better do.
