Rangers ace Ryan Kent compared to Franck Ribery after masterclass v Dortmund

Rangers shocked the footballing world on Thursday night as they dismantled Borussia Dortmund in their own backyard with a 4-2 win.

Goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram – along with a Dan-Axel Xagadou own goal – see Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men take a two-goal lead back to Ibrox ahead of next week’s return fixture.

The man who received most of the praise though was explosive winger Ryan Kent who tormented Dortmund right-back Manuel Akanji all evening.

On BT Sport’s coverage of the game, Owen Hargreaves was in awe of the Englishman and even compared him to Champions League winner Franck Ribery.

“I thought Kent was absolutely brilliant,” Hargreaves said, as quoted by Football Scotland.

“In a way, it almost looked like he was Franck Ribery tearing through Borussia Dortmund the way he was dribbling in the way that he used to do that for Bayern Munich with his control and quality.

“Running at players at a pace I think is Kent’s greatest attribute. He shocked everyone there.

“He played so well that I wouldn’t be surprised if teams from the Bundesliga or teams from the Premier League are looking at him.

“As that is a performance that you have to look at and think, ‘wow, that is a special player when he’s in possession and running at people’.”

Added value

Kent was simply mesmerising at times last night and Signal Iduna Park did not know what had hit it.

The way he glided past Akanji time after time really lifted the rest of his teammates and they responded in turn to produce the ultimate team display.

The Englishman may well have attracted new suitors ahead of the summer transfer window but that might not be the disaster it could have been for the Light Blues.

After a game that good, on such a big stage, Kent has added another zero to his price tag and the Gers can now expect a much better price for him should he leave at the end of the season.

Hargreaves is right to say Premier League and Bundesliga sides should be considering him as he may well be above the Scottish Premiership now in terms of quality, sadly for Rangers.

In other Rangers news, German newspapers have been reacting to last night’s game and they are all in utter shock.
