Alan Brazil not impressed by Rangers win in Dortmund on talkSPORT

Alan Brazil was in no mood to celebrate the result Rangers secured in Dortmund last night as he spent the morning playing it down on talkSPORT.

The former Ipswich striker could not help but betray his youth links to Celtic in the face of excited reaction from all angles throughout his breakfast show today (Friday 18 February).

The 62-year-old suggested the potential excuse of a “flu epidemic” for the poor showings of both the Bundesliga giants and Gers’ Old Firm rivals who lost in the Europa Conference League, while dismissing the jubilation after the 4-2 victory at the Signal Iduna Park.

Speaking live on talkSPORT at 06.20am he suggested the celebrations had gone overboard: “What round are we in? When I heard the commentary I was sure they’d won the World Cup.

“It’s not double [away] goals is it? The way they were talking last night I think they thought it was”.

He was forced to acknowledge it was a night to remember, but couldn’t resist undercutting it: “They did attack and that’s where Rangers are good. They took the game to Dortmund.

“It was a hell of a result, I hold my hands up.

“It’s unfortunate that Dortmund had a flu epidemic, as did Celtic of course. Celtic had one to forget last night”.

By 07.50am he was back to rejecting the feeling that developed last night: “My phone has gone ballistic… ah get lost.”

“Am I missing something here…? ‘This’ll be the best result in history’ – Get away you numpty.”

Music to Gers fans’ ears

It was a night to remember in Dortmund last night as the attacking ability of the visitors took advantage of the hosts’ propensity to concede a lot of goals.

After going down to a 5-2 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen the weekend before last, the side sitting second in the Bundesliga sparked suggestions they could be got at.

And with the Light Blues in sparkling attacking form in the past few games, particularly through Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, there looked to be a chance of a good result in Germany.

That came to fruition in style as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men scored four and could have had a few more.

Ryan Jack’s recent return from injury also proved pivotal after a glowing performance from the midfielder.

Brazil was experiencing the downside of being a football fan this morning, having to put up with the joy of rivals, to show how quickly things can change.
