Stewart Robertson says Rangers aren’t conceding Connor Goldson contract
Stewart Robertson insists Rangers aren’t giving up on a new contract for centre-back Connor Goldson.
The £3million signing from Brighton has just a few months left on his contract and is open to negotiations if the Gers qualify for Champions League football [FootballScotland].
However, Robertson understands the importance of letting players go under the right circumstances.

He told Sky Sports: “We’re not resigned to losing him. I know Ross (Wilson) is having regular conversations with all the players whose contracts are expiring in the summer and that’s something that will be addressed in the coming months.
“I’m quite philosophical about how these things work. Players come in and sign a contract and they’ve committed for that time.
“If they serve their time and that’s what the club has signed up to as well then that’s fine.
“If someone leaves prior to their contract expiring and we get some revenue then again that’s something everybody is happy with.”
Turning his attention to Patterson, he added: “We haven’t sold a player for multiple millions for many, many years. A key part of our strategy was the trading of players and I think it lends credibility to the value of your squad.
“When other clubs realise what your players are worth then it begins to change the way they look at your players.
“That’s why runs in Europe are very important because if you can show the way your players are competing at the top level and show their worth – all of that helps to enhance the value of your players.”

Financial gain?
Although Patterson is a very highly rated youngster, it was a great move selling him. As Robertson stated the financial benefits were well worth it and the money has allowed the Bears to improve their squad this season and most likely the next few to come.
It’s not often the Gers get tens of millions of pounds for a player – especially one who barely made an impact at the club.
Goldson on the other hand should be kept hold of. He has developed himself into a stalwart in the Rangers defence since coming to Scotland in 2018.
There isn’t a huge amount of cover for the experienced 29-year-old unless the club are looking to invest some money in the summer.
It must be remembered that the Bears won’t pick up a transfer fee for the defender with his contract up at the end of the season but as Robinson said, they are flush for cash at the moment and may look to bring in someone younger for the long-term.
