Ronald De Boer makes Rangers prediction vs Borussia Dortmund

Ronald De Boer believes Rangers have a chance of beating Borussia Dortmund and progressing in their Europa League playoff tie.

Rangers will travel to Germany for the first leg of the game on Thursday, before a return leg next week at Ibrox that will see the winner progress through to the last 16 of the tournament.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are the underdogs heading into the two-legged tie, but Ibrox legend De Boer told Sun Sport he believes that the Bears have a chance to go through in what he expects will be a ‘very tight’ fixture.

“I think Rangers will have a chance of causing an upset,” he said. “Of course, Dortmund will be favourites as, behind Bayern Munich, they are the top team in Germany.

“They didn’t have a great start to the season, but they have steadily improved. They also have a Dutch player Donyell Malen who I have seen play a lot and he has continued to get better and better.

“It is a team with a lot of great players, but Rangers will still have a chance to go through. I think it will be a very tight fixture and I’m looking forward to it.”

No pressure

There is very little pressure on Rangers to make it to the next round considering the tough draw they got, but there is quiet confidence they can pull off an upset.

Rangers

Rangers are a good team who are more than comfortable on the ball, which means they are capable of causing any team problems.

Defensively they will need to stiffen up to stop the fluid attacks that Dortmund are capable of, but if they can perform up to their own standards then they should feel they have a hope.

With Erling Haaland missing from the game through injury, that’s already a boost in the Glasgow side’s favour.

If Alfredo Morelos can perform the way he has been since GvB took over as boss, and Connor Goldson can continue in his good form alongside the solid midfield trio of Joe Aribo, Aaron Ramsey and Glen Kamara then you cannot rule them out.
