Dan-Axel Zagadou named as weak-link for Rangers to target vs Dortmund

Rangers have been told that their best route to victory against Dortmund in the Europa League could come through defender Dan-Axel Zagadou.

The Light Blues travel to Germany to take on Dortmund in the Europa League playoffs on Thursday after three wins in a row to curtail some dodgy form at the turn of the year.

Dortmund are in good form too but according to BT Sport commentator Nigel Spackman, who was speaking to Daily Record, there is one defender in particular who is prone to errors in a yellow shirt and Rangers can take advantage.

“When Dortmund are doing well, the Yellow Wall really does get behind the team,” he said.

“It’s just as important when they aren’t winning though. If Rangers were to go 1-0 up then the volume would turn up to a crescendo to drive Dortmund forward.

“So it’s a big bonus for Rangers that that’s going to be missing and a real boost to their chances. And Rangers always stand a chance.

“Dortmund concede goals. They play with a back four and they’ve conceded 36 goals in 22 games.

“They can switch off when you hit them on the counter. The central defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is one of those players who can be brilliant and then out of nowhere he makes a mistake.

“If the full-backs push on like they normally do then Rangers can try and exploit them in those areas with Ryan Kent’s pace and Alfredo Morelos’ form.”

Destiny?

Rangers couldn’t have more going for them right now in this tie if they tried.

Dortmund will be without star-man Erling Haaland for the first leg in Germany, the crowd will only be limited which will obviously help them deal with a less than hostile environment and they’re in good form too.

They will still be underdogs going into the game simply because of the reputation of both clubs across Europe, but there is a real feeling that Van Bronckhorst can do something special here.

Morelos is in wonderful form ahead of the game, with seven goals in his last eight appearances while Ryan Kent has been flying in recent weeks too.

The addition of Aaron Ramsey in midfield will certainly help too, and the boss had the luxury of resting the majority of starters at the weekend so they will be fresh.

They won’t get a better chance to win than this.
