Rangers linked Martin Fraisl opens up on future plans

Martial Fraisl has suggested that he is open to signing a new deal at Schalke amid reported interest from Rangers.

According to a recent report from Daily Record, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is keen to secure the signature of the Austrian who will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Last week, the club’s Sporting Director, Rouven Schroder, praised the 28-year-old but said that the club is not looking to offer him a new deal.

He has enjoyed an impressive season in Bundesliga 2 this season and has suggested he can sign a contract extension depending on where Schalke finish at the end of the campaign.

The Austria goalkeeper said, as quoted by The Scottish Sun: “I feel very, very comfortable at Schalke and like the people in and around the club. I like the Schalke mentality a lot. I can certainly imagine a contract extension.

“In general, I have a clear career plan. I only ever speak publicly about my career path once I have achieved them.

“But when you play in the second division with Schalke, you can imagine what my next big goal is.”

Sign him?

Schalke are currently fifth in the German second-tier league table, and his future at the club seems dependent on the final league position.

He is certainly better than playing in the second tier of German football and Rangers can offer him an escape route.

If Rangers win the Scottish Premiership again this season, they will go directly to Champions League group stages, and this could be a huge attraction for any player mulling over a move.

Rangers

Getting regular games isn’t a big issue, but to play in Europe is something the Austrian goalkeeper could find very tempting if at all the Gers come up with an offer.

Most importantly, the Bears need to sign a new goalkeeper, sooner or later. At 40, Allan McGregor is fast approaching the apogee of his career.

Jon McLaughlin is the second-choice at the club, but surely Van Bronckhorst must add someone who can provide competition for the first-team shirt.
