Rangers fans told what to expect from Ianis Hagi on injury return

Rangers fans will have to wait an extra two months for Ianis Hagi to get back to his best once he returns from injury, according to his dad Gheorge.

The Romania star suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury against Aberdeen last month and was ruled out for the rest of the season, while he’s expected to miss the start of next season too.

And while his dad expects him to get back to his best eventually following recovery from the injury, he has told Daily Record that Rangers fans must be patient with him once he’s back on the pitch.

“Ianis is good,” he said. “He’s very focussed on his recovery. He knows he was unlucky.

“He will learn from this and it will make him stronger. It’s part of the game and the risk we all take as footballers.

“It happened at a bad time for him and even though he will be out for six months, he is in good spirits. He’s doing a post-operative rehabilitation program with Rangers and he will be as good as new when he recovers.

“He’s confident of a full recovery and I can tell you he’s much stronger than I was when I was injured. He is 100 per cent professional.

“But although he will want to play immediately, he will need time to get back to his previous form.

“At Rangers, he has people who love him and care for him. But once he returns you have to give him two months to get back to top form I think.”

Patience

Patience is a virtue when the club are dealing with serious injuries but that’s the case even more so with attacking flair players.

Hagi is a ‘top talent‘, as described by Steven Gerrard, who relied heavily on his agility and skill to beat players and perform at his best in advanced positions, so he will need to build up his confidence and his match sharpness.

That will only come with time and while fans will know that, the longer it takes the less patience they are likely to show and that will only make it tougher for him.

His dad has done the right thing here to buy time for Ianis to get back to his best without too much pressure or expectation on immediate performances.

If Rangers are successful in their pursuit of the title this season fans are likely to be in a better mood, but if they fail to be crowned champions then the mood will be sombre with an expectation to close that gap as soon as possible.
