Erling Haaland expected to miss Rangers clash – report

Rangers have been handed a huge boost ahead of their Europa League clash with Dortmund after Erling Haaland emerged as a major doubt, according to RNBVB.

The Bears travel to Germany for the first leg of their knockout tie against the Bundesliga giants on Thursday as underdogs to progress to the next round.

But their chances of getting a result away from home were handed a major boost after German outlet RNBVB reported that hotshot striker Haaland is expected to miss the game after failing to recover from a hip injury.

According to them, the 21-year-old Norway international missed training on Monday with the injury.

He was present at the club’s training ground, along with his personal physiotherapist but he was inside the building working while his teammates were out on the pitch.

Rangers are hug underdogs coming into this game as it is, but news that their opposition’s main source of goals will not be available for the away leg is probably the best news they could have got.

Haaland’s record is sensational, with 80 goals in 79 appearances for the team since joining in January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg.

In recent weeks he has missed two games and while they looked good in their 3-0 win over a significantly weaker Union Berlin at the weekend, Bayer Leverkusen hit them for five prior to that.

Rangers will feel they have the firepower in Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala and Amad Diallo to cause plenty of problems on the night. With a bit of luck, the chances that they give up that would normally fall to Haaland could have a different result.

Van Bronckhorst can now plan for a game without the 6ft 4′ striker in the side, knowing the potential alternatives have a very different style and skillset.
