Rangers are ‘massive club’ as Aaron Ramsey admits to rustiness after Annan cup win

Rangers cruised into the next round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a 3-0 win over League Two Annan Athletic which saw Aaron Ramsey earn his first start.

Filip Helander, Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala scored the goals at Galabank as 31-year-old Ramsey was subbed off after an hour.

The Welshman is still building his fitness and said after the game that he was feeling good, despite some rustiness on Saturday, and he is ready to win at Ibrox.

“I was always going to be a little bit rusty but I’m glad I got 60 minutes in the legs again. I’m feeling good,” Ramsey said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I’m building everything week by week and hopefully I can start more regularly. I’m enjoying my football again.

“I’m here to win trophies. Coming to a massive club like this there’s always pressure to win.

“I like that and hopefully we can have a successful season together.”

Job done

Giovanni van Bronckhorst won’t have cared how his team played at Galabank yesterday, he will just be pleased to have progressed in the cup.

It had all the hallmarks of a potential banana peel in their cup run and the Gers needed to be on their toes to avoid an embarrassing defeat.

And boy were they? Three goals in the first half an hour was more than enough to end any Annan hopes of a memorable giant-killing, even if the Light Blues didn’t find a goal after Sakala’s 32nd-minute strike.

It wasn’t the demolition some fans were hoping for but this was never going to be a game Rangers would remember, as long as they won.

Most importantly, they came through the game without any injuries to any of their senior players unlike the previous round against Stirling Albion when Ianis Hagi was ruled out for the season.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart was dazzled by this Gers star against Annan as he makes his claim for more game time.
