Rangers ace Jon McLaughlin says there is no tension for number one spot
Jon McLaughlin has insisted that he isn’t wishing that Allan McGregor would leave Rangers to open the door to more chance.
The 34-year-old recently signed a new deal keeping him at Ibrox until the summer of 2024.
There is uncertainty with what McGregor will do with his coming to an end in the summer, but McLaughlin admitted that he would be happy to see him stay at the club.

“I think Allan could go on forever if he wanted to,” McLaughlin said as per The Scotsman. “But we’ve not had any genuine conversations about it.
“Of course, I want to play, I want to become a first choice regular at this club. That’s my aim as it would be for any player.
“But it’s not about replacing anyone or taking someone else’s place. If Allan was to stay at Rangers, then I along with everyone else would be delighted.
“It’s not about me wanting (him to leave) to give me a better chance. That’s not how I want things to work.
“So it wasn’t a case of me knowing what Allan’s plans are for the future. It was about knowing I’m at a great football club, where I’m happy playing my football and working right now.”

Safe hands
Surely Rangers know something we don’t. It just doesn’t make sense to tie McLaughlin down to a new contract given his age and the fact he is a number two.
The club have youngster Robby McCrorie at their disposal who at 23 will want his shot at first-team football with Rangers.
This suggests that McGregor will be on his way out at the end of the season with his departure being mooted for quite some time now.
He is still going stronger than ever for the Bears but aged 39, McGregor knows the finish line is near and he would rather go out on his own terms than being forced aside by the club.
It is time for someone else to have their shot in goal and there aren’t many replacements other than highly rated and experienced McLaughlin who will relish the chance having spent so many years working towards it.
