Chris Sutton hits back after Ally McCoist view on Rangers bouncing back this week

Ally McCoist was left thrilled by the “outstanding” comeback of Rangers this week after the Old Firm defeat.

Chris Sutton hit back, insisting that it was always going to happen against Hearts and Hibs after two huge wins.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was destroyed after the 3-0 defeat at Celtic, but he was actually defended by Sutton in the end.

Speaking on BT Sports Scottish Football Extra this evening (11 February), McCoist kickstarted the conversation.

“Giovanni van Bronckhorst will secretly and quietly be delighted with the response,” he said.

“Clearly, one of the big factors is that Alfie is back. I thought the standard of quality of goals have been outstanding, especially against Hearts. They have definitely bounced back.”

Sutton hit back, insisting that the bounce-back was always going to happen with Van Bronckhorst in charge.

“Can I just say, I was the level-headed one after Rangers got beat against Celtic?

“I said they’d bounce back, Van Bronckhorst got a real kicking after that, people forget the job he did when he first came in.”

The reason.

It was no surprise to see the Bufalo at the heart of everything this week.

Hearts and Hibs will have arrived at Ibrox thinking they could have possibly caused an upset, but that was quickly ripped away from them.

Morelos was back to his best and will have been fuming after being ignored by Colombia after travelling to South America, leading to him missing out on the Old Firm at the same time.

Sutton insists he knew that the bounce-back would happen, but we’re quite certain that he was likely covering his own back before getting too carried away.

This is just the start, though, and everyone at Rangers will know that this relentless streak has to continue consistently if they want to win the Scottish Premiership again – bring it on.
