Alfredo Morelos could lead Rangers exodus in summer with major rebuild needed – Chris Jack

Alfredo Morelos may be one of many big-name players to leave Rangers this summer, according to Chris Jack.

The Glasgow Evening Times journalist reports that if Morelos, 25, doesn’t sign a new contract before the summer transfer window opens, Rangers will take the decision on his future out of his hands to ensure they get a decent fee for the Colombia striker.

Jack adds on the Evening Times website that Morelos’ contract situation is “the same with the likes of Filip Helander, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent” and that the ex-HJK striker “could well lead the exodus”. It is understood that Connor Goldson is also set to leave this summer when his contract ends.

“Rangers are already gearing up for a major window of wheeling and dealing and a substantial rebuild of the squad looks to be on the cards,” the Glasgow-based journalist adds.

Massive rebuild job

We really hope that Ross Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are up to the task of building almost an entirely new squad in the summer transfer window because that’s the reality we’re facing.

Sure, one of two of the aforementioned players might sign new contracts but Rangers should not have let themselves get into a situation where so many big-name players see their contract expires in the same summer.

In order to build a sustainable player trading model, incomings and outgoings must be planned in order to avoid one summer where huge changes are made.

If Morelos, Kent, Aribo, Goldson and Helander go this summer – as well as any potential fringe players – we’re going to need to sign a ridiculous number of players and hope that van Bronckhorst can get them all ticking in time for the new season starting.

We don’t want to lose any of these players but you’d be deluded to not realise the gravity of the situation here.

Hopefully another league winners’ medal and a spot in the Champions League group stages will convince a couple to pen new deals but we do expect big moves to happen this year.
