Rangers new signing Ciubotaru will be unveiled today based on cryptic tweet

Romania Under-18s international Kevin Ciubotaru looks like he will be unveiled as a Rangers player today (9 February), according to a tweet by Kinetic Academy.

Ciubotaru, 18, has agreed a two-year deal at Ibrox [The Sun] and will join up with the Gers’ youth set-up at Auchenhowie.

Kinetic Academy’s Twitter account has said to “keep your eyes peeled” for around 2pm this afternoon, adding in the number 54 to symbolise the number of their graduates to sign for professional clubs and also the red while and blue synonymous with Rangers.

Exciting youth addition

Ciubotaru has recently told the Scottish Sun (7 February) that he had trials at numerous Premier League clubs before agreeing to join the reigning Scottish Premiership champions.

Chelsea, Spurs, West Ham, Watford, Southampton, Brentford all took a look at the attack-minded left-back, who’s been on the books at the Kinetic Academy in South London.

Rangers star Joe Aribo also developed at the Kinetic Academy, as well as Stoke City loanee Josh Maja.

Ciubotaru will become the 54th player to graduate from the Kinetic Academy and earn a contract at a professional football club.

As confirmed by the player himself [Scottish Sun], Sheffield United and Leicester City had offered Ciubotaru a spot in their academies before he opted for a move to Govan.

“The interest from Rangers was unusual because they were looking at videos of one of my colleagues and spotted me instead,” said Ciubotaru. “They wanted more details and within a week they sent me a plane ticket and I flew to Glasgow.

“Rangers are an extraordinary club, with a superb training base, impeccable conditions and a special section dedicated to their own Academy.

“I just want to make the most of this incredible opportunity in my career.

“I met Ianis Hagi and we spoke a little. He’s a very humble man, I can’t wait to train and play with him in the first team next season hopefully. I’m sorry he got hurt pretty badly, I understand he’ll need a few good months to recover.”

Ciubotaru is an attack-minded left-back who loves to get forward so there’s no doubt that he’ll be a good addition to the squad in years to come.
