Giovanni van Bronckhorst amazes Alex Rae with ‘magic’ during Rangers vs Hibs

Giovanni van Bronckhorst proved he still has the abilities that made him a top player, wowing Alex Rae with his control during Rangers’ win over Hibernian.

A long ball out of the away side’s defence went long and landed out of play at the feet of the Gers boss who stopped the ball dead under his foot, displaying the kind of skill that any of the players on the pitch would have been proud of.

Former Bear Rae was beside himself at the sight of it at half time on the RangersTV match broadcast, saying: “Stop it. Stop it. Honestly, I think it was a clearance from big Rocky [Bushiri] trying to find the winger here, and he actually overhits it. Look at this for a touch”.

Fellow pundit Alan Hutton responded: “You’d need a beachball to do that wouldn’t you?”

Rae rounded off: “I’m telling you that was absolutely tremendous. He’s still got the magic.”

It was indeed sublime control from a man who featured in a World Cup Final for the Netherlands so it should be no surprise he knows what he is doing.

But for a man who retired from playing over a decade ago it was impressive to pull such a nonchalant piece of work out of the bag in front of thousands of supporters.

If his tactical plans and words of motivation aren’t enough for the Light Blues playing staff the manager could do worse than to show of his ability every now and then.

Needing a win to keep pace with league leaders Celtic, Gers duly obliged with a scrappy but ultimately comfortable victory over the other side of Edinburgh, having dispatched Hearts 5-0 on Sunday.

The men from Ibrox look to have found some of the form they had before the winter break again, having gone through some rough weeks at the start of 2022.

In other Rangers news, this Gers man wowed the match commentators with his role in this costly first-half incident.
