Rangers need to find a way to win without Alfredo Morelos as suspension nears

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst might have another headache to contend with very soon as his star man nears the yellow card limit.

Alfredo Morelos proved against Hearts on Sunday his importance to the Gers side, scoring twice in the 5-0 demolition at Ibrox.

The Colombian, however, is only one yellow card away from the limit of six where he will receive a one-game suspension in the Scottish Premiership, as per the Scottish FA regulations.

His combative nature is what makes him such a handful for defenders and he is bound to pick up the odd booking when he puts himself about as he does.

But this brings up another issue for the Light Blues as they seem to struggle in his absence and it could be detrimental to their title charge.

Rangers lost and drew in the two games he missed while on international duty, including the 3-0 Old Firm derby humiliation and his presence was deeply missed.

Neither Kemar Roofe or Cedric Itten have been able to make any kind of impact as the outright number nine when Morelos has been unavailable but someone has to stand up and be counted if (or more likely when) he has to serve his suspension.

Goals need to be shared around the side more equally rather than the reliance on Morelos to fire them to glory and in recent weeks it has been coming.

Scott Arfield has scored twice in the past four games and Glen Kamara also netted from midfield against Hearts.

More is needed from the wingers too with Ryan Kent having not hit the standards he sets himself and Amad Diallo yet to get going for the Gers despite a debut goal at Ross County.

Van Bronckhorst has to find a way, any way, to win when Morelos is unavailable because if/when he is sold, things could go south for the Dutchman very quickly.

In other Rangers news, this teenage sensation has been dropped to the ‘B’ team ahead of a key European tie.
