Michael Stewart raves about Alfredo Morelos after Rangers thrash Hearts

Alfredo Morelos had BBC Sportscene pundit Michael Stewart filled with praise following his match winning performance for Rangers on Sunday.

The Colombian returned from a frustrating international duty when he saw no action to inspire his club to a 5-0 demolition of Hearts at Ibrox.

He opened the scoring early on, sliding in a Ryan Kent cross at the back post, and sparked an avalanche of late goals when he scored a wonderful second by curling past Craig Gordon with his left foot.

Former Hearts man Stewart thought it was a fantastic showing, saying on BBC Sportscene on Sunday night: “It was an all-round performance from Alfredo Morelos.

“He’s so physical the defenders don’t find it easy when they’re up against him. You see when he’s running through on goal, Taylor Moore just bounces off of him.

“He’s a complete menace when he’s in that sort of form.”

Badly missed

Morelos showed Gers fans everything they had been missing while their main goalscoring threat was away with his national side with a complete display.

In his absence, the Light Blues had dropped five points and been overtaken at the top of the league after the painful Old Firm defeat to Celtic at Parkhead.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst needed his side to get back on track as quickly as possible after a damaging couple of weeks and he will have been delighted that they eventually did that in style.

There was some risky moments when the score remained 1-0 as Hearts went close on a couple of occasions after half time.

But once the 25-year-old made the game safe with his excellent second and assist for the third as the champions’ confidence returned and they made a statement at the expense of the Edinburgh side.

In other Rangers news, this former club man recalled how a 1998 thrashing by Celtic lead a teammate to go “berserk” in the changing rooms and hoped for a repeat after the latest one.
