Shay Given’s Celtic payback for Kris Boyd after Rangers Old Firm collapse

Shay Given celebrated his boyhood side Celtic’s thrashing of Rangers on Wednesday by directing a mocking social media message at Kris Boyd.

The Hoops blew Gers away in the Old Firm derby, taking top spot in the SPFL in the process, and the ex-Ibrox man was visibly infuriated by the performance as a pundit on the Sky Sports match broadcast after the 3-0 result.

Bhoys fan Given rubbed it in on Thursday night with a post on his personal Instagram page below a photo of himself standing outside Celtic Park that said: “Great to be back in paradise last night. The Bhoys CelticFC did not disappoint – keep your chins up Kris Boyd”.

The response came after Boyd had celebrated the deadline day arrival of Aaron Ramsey at Ibrox next to the former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, while the pair were both on Sky Sports as transfer window pundits.

As the Glasgow Times reports, the Scottish former striker was delighted by the news of the Welshman’s signing and offered a celebratory fist bump to his unimpressed colleague who declined to participate.

Fair’s fair

The comprehensive nature of the victory on Wednesday night immediately opened up all Rangers fans in the vicinity of a Celtic equivalent to ridicule.

And Boyd surely could not have envisaged such a poor performance from his men when he was sitting alongside Given on transfer deadline day.

The mood surrounding the club was jubilant after the blockbuster loan deal for the Juventus star was announced, but he came back down to earth pretty heavily two nights later.

Rangers

The sly dig about multiple chins will have topped off the misery for the ex-Scotland international from his justifiably smug tormentor.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side looked shellshocked in the face of the tempo of play from Celtic at Parkhead, going behind in the opening five minutes, and conceding two more just before half time.

The match was out of sight at that point and makes Sunday’s visit of Hearts to Ibrox absolutely crucial.

In other Rangers news, the club has received a huge boost with this news about a star man.
