Report suggests Doekhi will leave Vitesse this summer amid Rangers links

Rangers were unable to get a deal for Vitesse defender Danilho Doekhi over the line in January but the latest reports suggest he will be available for free in the summer.

Dutch media outlet Gelderlander report that Rangers were one of three clubs chasing a deal to sign the 23-year-old but he remains at the club this season.

They are hoping to utilise Doekhi to gain on-pitch success and suffer the financial loss of not getting a transfer fee for the player this summer.

“Doekhi will leave the capital of Gelderland on a free transfer in the summer. A new adventure beckons,” Gelderlander reports.

The other clubs chasing the Vitesse skipper are Napoli and Atalanta which could prove difficult opposition for the Gers given the strength of the Serie A in comparison to the Scottish Premiership.

Constant communication

The transfer window may have slammed shut but that shouldn’t stop the club from trying to bring Doekhi to Ibrox.

The 23-year-old could be a real star in Scotland given his experience and seniority at a top club at such a young age.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the Rangers board should be in almost constant communication with the player and the cub to try and erase competition for his services before anyone else gets the chance.

Doekhi’s height is a major factor in his game in central defence and he could be the perfect partner to John Souttar next season when the Hearts defender moves to Glasgow next season.

A Dutch Under-21 international, he is clearly a very highly-rated individual who would only improve the situation at Ibrox.
