Rangers team news confirmed v Celtic: Aaron Ramsey and Filip Helander out

Aaron Ramsey will be unavailable to play for Rangers at Celtic Park on Wednesday night, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed.

Speaking to the media ahead of this week’s Old Firm showdown at Parkhead, van Bronckhorst also confirmed that Filip Helander is also missing for the match.

However, in a bit of positive news, Leon Balogun is ready to play once more.

As quoted on Rangers’ official Twitter account on Tuesday, van Bronckhorst said: “Ramsey trained but is too soon for tomorrow, I expect him in the squad in the near future.

“Helander is still out and should be back in the coming weeks. Balogun is back fit and available.”

Must-not-lose

Rangers are in the best position going into the second Old Firm fixture of the season.

While our form has not been great since the winter break ended with draws at Aberdeen and Ross County on either side of a laboured win over Livingston, we go into this game knowing that a draw will be fine.

Of course, we want to win. But the pressure is on Celtic to get all three points otherwise they will have a massive chance to claw back at us go to waste.

Van Bronckhorst has had a big job on his hands in the last few days to boost his squad and get them back to winning ways.

And there’s no doubt that signing a star player like Ramsey from Juventus on deadline day will boost morale at Auchenhowie.

It should also give the midfielders a reason to improve because they now face the pressure of the Wales international vying for their spot in the starting line-up.

If they impress against Celtic and keep Ramsey out of the side for a bit longer, then that will be great news for the Gers overall.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues were rejected by this Premier League player late in January despite an offer being made.
