Rangers yet to table deadline day offer for Hearts centre-back John Souttar

Rangers have not submitted a deadline day bid for Hearts centre-back John Souttar, according to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell.

The Scotland international, 25, signed a pre-contract deal with the Ibrox side earlier in January, and while they want him this month, they have seen two bids rejected.

Rangers are yet to establish recent contact, and no bid has been submitted yet by mid-day on Monday.

Campbell said: “I’m told Rangers have yet to come back with a deadline day offer for John Souttar.

“The Hearts centre-back signed a pre-contract deal but I understand Rangers had two bids rejected to bring him in early.

“No further contact in recent days.”

Not happening?

It seems the Bears have given up on trying to land Souttar early, but nothing can be ruled out on transfer deadline day.

At the moment, nothing has happened yet after Hearts knocked back Rangers’ attempt to have him this month.

They might have to wait till summer from the look of things, but there is no denying that Giovanni van Bronckhorst could do with such a quality centre-back right now.

The Light Blues have dropped four points since action resumed after the winter break.

They drew against Aberdeen in their first match of the year before weekend’s 3-3 stalemate at Ross County.

That has resulted in just a two-point gap between them and Celtic ahead of midweek’s trip to Parkhead, and someone with the quality of Souttar at the back could do them a lot of good in that game.

Rangers cannot afford to lose the Old Firm derby, and while the result will not determine who wins the title this term, it could prove to be a turning point in the race.
