Rangers to complete £500,000 deal for Lechia Gdansk defender Mateusz Zukowski

Rangers are set to complete a deal for Lechia Gdansk defender Mateusz Zukowski before today’s deadline, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Premiership giants have thrashed out a £500,000 deal to land the 20-year-old now, despite the fact that the Pole is set to become a free agent in the summer.

Rangers are not the only ones keen on Zukowski, with Legia Warsaw and clubs across the continent also interested, but the right-back has made it clear he sees his future in Glasgow.

Boost

Zukowski is a direct replacement for Nathan Patterson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be pleased to finally get in a cover for skipper James Tavernier.

With only two points now between them and Celtic, Rangers clearly need more quality in their ranks if they want to be challenging strongly for their title, and landing the young Pole comes as a huge boost.

He wants to join them and the fact that the Bears are ready to part with half a million for him speaks volumes.

They could have opted to wait until summer and land him completely free, but they simply cannot afford to end the January transfer window without making the necessary additions.

Retaining the Premiership will see them automatically qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, and they are ready to splash the cash to get that done.

Landing Zukowski should come in handy, and a deal could be announced any moment from now.
