Manchester City teen James McAtee rejects move to Rangers on deadline day

Manchester City midfielder James McAtee has rejected a late January offer to join Rangers on loan, according to The Athletic journalist Sam Lee.

Writing on The Athletic website, Lee reports that McAtee, 19, had loan offers from Rangers, Bournemouth, QPR, Swansea, Huddersfield and clubs in Europe but has opted to stay at the Etihad for the rest of the season.

It is understood that he wants to continue his development with the English Premier League leaders and is set to sign a new contract.

Lee wrote: “Sources close to the player insist talks over a new contract are ongoing, although influential figures at City are confident that an agreement will soon be reached and that he will sign a long-term deal in the coming weeks.”

What a shame – not

Honestly, who cares? We’re signing Aaron Ramsey.

McAtee may be a top talent at Manchester City but signing him on a straight-up loan deal has nothing on signing Ramsey on a loan-to-buy basis from Juventus.

McAtee is clear someone who Man City have high hopes for.

He’s played three times for Pep Guardiola’s senior side this season and was handed a Premier League debut back in November in Man City’s 3-0 hammering of Everton at the Etihad.

But that experience doesn’t weigh up in comparison to Ramsey, who’s a three-time FA Cup winner, a proven Premier League midfielder, a Welsh international and has been at Juventus alongside some massive names.

It hasn’t quite worked out for Ramsey in Italy but he’s still someone who will walk into Ibrox and instantly become the best player in Scottish football.

What a transfer window this has been.
